Woman Found Dead at Bryn Station in Ashton

A woman has died after being discovered at a railway station in Wigan, prompting a large emergency response on Friday evening.

Police and ambulance crews were called to Bryn railway station in Ashton-in-Makerfield shortly before 6pm on Friday, 19 December. Despite their efforts, a woman aged in her 30s was pronounced dead at the scene.

British Transport Police confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious. Officers said a report will be passed to the coroner in due course.

Local councillor Danny Fletcher, who represents Ashton-in-Makerfield on Wigan Council, shared an update later that evening. He said British Transport Police were leading the response while working closely with Greater Manchester Police, adding that the station would reopen as soon as it was safe to do so. He also said the council would offer support where needed.

In a message posted online, Cllr Fletcher expressed his sympathies to the woman’s loved ones, encouraging people to hold their families close.

The incident caused disruption to rail services, with lines temporarily closed between Wigan North Western and Liverpool Lime Street while emergency services dealt with the situation.
