Wigan pub walk aims for record turnout

The Wigan & Leigh Hospice Pub Walk is set to return on Saturday 16 May 2026, bringing together supporters, local venues and the wider community for a day of fundraising and social activity across the borough.

Since its launch in 2024, the event has raised more than £50,000 in support of hospice care.
Organisers are aiming to build on that success in 2026 with what is expected to be the largest walk to date.

Participants will follow an eight-mile route through Wigan, with stops at a range of local pubs. Several venues are expected to offer promotions to those taking part, identifiable by official event T-shirts and wristbands.

The 2026 event is sponsored by Lee Russell Decorators, whose support contributes to the organisation of the walk. Registration will take place at Formby's from 9:30am, with staggered start times scheduled for 9:45am, 10:10am and 10:30am to manage participant flow.

Lindsey Butler, Fundraising and Community Engagement Manager at Wigan & Leigh Hospice, said: "We're thrilled to be bringing the Wigan Pub Walk back for 2026. The support we've received from local venues, and the community has been incredible, and we can't wait to welcome everyone for another brilliant day.

"Every pound raised helps us continue providing specialist care for people living with life-limiting illnesses and their families. We're so grateful to everyone who signs up, donates, or shouts "cheers" our walkers along the route."

A number of venues across the route will be taking part, including Kirkless Hall Inn, The Collier’s Arms, Two Left Feet, The Beer Matt at Red Rock Car Park, The Boar’s Head, Forbes on the Lane, The Cherry Gardens, The Open Arms, The Millstone, The Charles Dickens and Real Crafty. Refreshments will also be available at Red Rock Car Park during the event.

Participants are advised that anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All registered walkers will receive an event T-shirt, with additional shirts available to purchase on the day. Those taking part are encouraged to raise sponsorship, either through traditional methods or online platforms.

The walk is fully signposted and is not a race, meaning participants can complete the route at their own pace and are not required to visit every venue. Dogs are permitted but must be kept on a lead throughout.
