Wigan & Leigh Hospice receives Believe Star honour

Wigan & Leigh Hospice has been awarded a Believe Star, the highest accolade given to a resident or organisation within Wigan borough, in recognition of its outstanding contribution to local communities.
The Believe Stars scheme was launched in 2012, creating walks of fame in Leigh on Civic Square and in Wigan on Believe Square. The stars honour living residents and organisations who have used their platform for good - from major sports stars who have shaped local sport, to medical professionals who have saved lives across the borough.
Wigan & Leigh Hospice was formally presented with its Believe Star during a ceremony held at Wigan Town Hall on Monday 9 February. The star will be permanently installed in July.
Jo Carby, Chief Executive of Wigan & Leigh Hospice, said: "This Believe Star is an incredible honour and a moment of real pride for everyone connected to Wigan & Leigh Hospice. For more than 40 years, our teams, volunteers and supporters have worked tirelessly to ensure people across our borough receive compassionate, specialist care when they need it most.
"This recognition belongs to our whole community - the staff who deliver exceptional care, the volunteers who give their time so generously, and the fundraisers and supporters who make our work possible. We are deeply grateful to Wigan Council for this acknowledgement and for their continued support of hospice care."
Leader of Wigan Council, Councillor David Molyneux MBE, said: "This Believe Star is a testament to the unwavering dedication and kindness that Wigan and Leigh Hospice has shown to our residents for generations.
"The Hospice is a shining example of the very best of Wigan borough. Their work touches countless lives, and this honour recognises not only their clinical excellence, but their humanity, compassion and incredible community spirit.
"Wigan and Leigh Hospice has always been there for our borough, and we are proud to celebrate them and their remarkable contribution."
The Believe Star recognises the hospice's commitment to provide palliative and end-of-life care, bereavement support, education and specialist services to people and families across Wigan and Leigh - care that is largely funded through charitable donations and community support.
