Light Night is set to dazzle again for 2024

Wigan Borough’s spectacular outdoor light event will return later this year with residents encouraged to keep an eye out for tickets.

Light Night Wigan 2024 will be hosted in Mesnes Park in November and has proved to be a big hit with thousands visiting in previous years.

The family-focused and free event showcases the work of local, national and international artists with dazzling, illuminated installations transforming the park into an enchanted trail.

Although the event – which will be hosted across three nights – is free, booking is essential and a first batch of tickets will be released in the coming weeks.

Councillor Chris Ready, cabinet portfolio holder for communities and neighbourhoods, said: “Light Night has quickly become a real highlight in our cultural calendar and it’s an amazing experience for all the family.

“We have seen thousands visit across the last few years and we can’t wait to see the new installations for 2024.”

Light Night will be held throughout the evenings of November 21, 22 and 23 at Mesnes Park in Wigan town centre.

Among the art installations will be the return of the Wigan Icons project, which sees young people invited to design artwork inspired by local legends.

Last year’s icons included Ella Toone, Andy Farrell and Wigan Athletic’s Crusty the Pie.

The event is curated by arts and culture organisation Things That Go On Things and is supported by Wigan Council, Arts Council England, The Granada Foundation, City Heart and Light Up The North.

Jude Jagger and Gemma Saunders from Things That Go On Things, said: “We can’t wait to welcome our light artists to Wigan once again. We’re so excited to see all the visitors again in the beautiful surroundings of Mesnes Park.

“This year is all set up to be our best Light Night festival yet!”
