Funding scheme offers a share of £20,000 for Wigan projects

A new phase of grants from a community funding programme aimed at improving mental wellbeing across Wigan borough has been opened, offering significant financial support to local organisations.
The “Thrive in Five” fund, delivered by Wigan Borough Community First in partnership with Wigan Council Public Health, will provide £100,000 in total funding for community-led wellbeing projects.
Right now, the next phase of £20,000 funds are available, with at least one award expected to support work focused on children and young people.
The initiative is targeted at voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) organisations, including charities and community interest companies. Funding is intended to support grassroots projects that address mental health and wellbeing, with a strong emphasis on locally driven solutions and community involvement.
As part of the programme, successful applicants will be required to take part in a “community of practice”, sharing knowledge and helping to develop best practice in how wellbeing services are designed and delivered at a local level. The approach is intended to ensure learning is captured and used to shape future commissioning and long-term public health investment in the borough.
The fund forms part of a wider package of investment into Wigan’s community sector, with up to £800,000 in funding streams announced for 2026. These programmes are aligned with broader “Live Well” ambitions across Greater Manchester, focusing on reducing inequalities, improving health outcomes, and strengthening community resilience.
Organisations across Wigan borough are being encouraged to apply, with the scheme designed not only to fund immediate projects but also to influence how future community wellbeing services are developed. The programme reflects a growing shift towards placing community groups at the centre of decision-making and delivery within the local public health system.
Groups must apply by the 1st of June, 5pm. Funding will be paid by the 15th June (subject to admin). Find further details here.
