Armed Forces Day This Weekend
An annual celebration of our Armed Forces returns to Wigan Borough this weekend with an open invitation extended to salute our heroes.
Wigan Council’s 2025 Armed Forces Day comes to Wigan town centre on Saturday, 28 June, starting with a military parade in Mesnes Park which starts at 11am.
The event, sponsored by Capricorn Security, will feature fun for all the family on Standishgate, including military vehicles and displays, themed activities and music entertainment, artisan market, fun fair and climbing wall.
Councillor Martyn Smethurst, lead cabinet member for Armed Forces and Veterans, said: “Recognising and supporting the contribution of our Armed Forces personnel, past and present, is very important to us here at Wigan Council.
“We would like to extend an invitation for our families and communities to join us at this day of celebration. There’s something for everyone to enjoy.”
In the build-up to the day itself, the borough’s dedicated Armed Forces HQ will be highlighting the support and opportunities available all year round.
Leader of Wigan Council, Councillor David Molyneux MBE, said: “There are still opportunities to take part in Armed Forces Day, so please get involved if you can.
“We’re looking forward to hosting everyone at this fantastic event; from cadets to serving personnel to veterans and all their families and friends, your contribution is valued here in Wigan Borough.”
The day is free to attend but some activities may incur a small charge.
