Proms in the Park returns to Wigan and Leigh for summer spectacular

Summer pop classics, patriotic anthems and pyrotechnics will brighten two of the borough’s favourite parks this year, as the much‑anticipated Proms in the Park events are poised to return. Wigan’s Mesnes Park will host the first evening on Saturday 30 August, followed by a second performance at Leigh’s Pennington Hall Park on Saturday 6 September

Both evenings begin at 6 pm and run through to 10pm, giving families a delightful end-of-summer treat.

The highlight of both evenings will be uplifting performances from the Tyldesley Brass Band, playing beloved standards like “Land of Hope and Glory” and “Jerusalem”. Following the musical set, the skies will erupt in a dramatic fireworks display orchestrated by Smart Pyrotechnics. For those seeking an extra special experience, a VIP package is available featuring a pre-pitched gazebo, full cream tea (including scones, jam, clotted cream and prosecco), and a private table setting – perfect for groups of 4 to 8 guests

Proms in the Park invites guests to bring their own picnics, chairs, flags — and even alcohol, as private drinking is permitted.  Dogs aren’t allowed on site, and attendees should avoid bringing large furniture, gazebos, glassware or sharp objects. Tickets are selling fast, with advance booking essential; adults typically pay around £12–£13 while children’s tickets are slightly cheaper. 

Wigan Council encourages you to arrive early to soak up the relaxed community vibe and summer ambience—before the grand musical finale lights up the night sky.
