Goodbye Wigan!

Well, it’s been a fun ride!
Four years of serving Wigan with some great tunes, local information, plenty of interaction – and shouting about Wigan whenever we can
But all good things must come to an end. We’ve unexpectedly lost our funding, and we simply can’t carry on without it.
We had a plan to become self-funding by 2027. We’ve been working with some great clients, who have helped to support us by advertising with us – and we thank them for their amazing help and co-operation. Our clients are Wigan through-and-through, and it’s thanks to them that we’ve been able to broadcast for so long.
However, Wigan Council have been our major funders, and they now have other priorities. We’d like to thank Wigan Council for their support over the years, it’s been appreciated, and has helped us develop Wigan One into the brand that it is.
Sadly, the halting of our funding has happened so quickly that we simply do not have the time to continue our plan to become self-sufficient. Wigan One does not make a profit, does not have millions of pounds available to spend, and simply does not have the savings to continue to operate until our plans come to fruition.
We’d like to thank all our clients, staff, presenters, and freelancers who have helped us stay on air for the last four years. A huge thank-you and the very, very best of luck to those who will be losing their jobs.
Most importantly, however, we’d like to thank you, our listeners, for tuning in and supporting us. For getting in touch with requests and stories, and for spreading the word about Wigan’s only local radio station. Our listening figures have risen by a huge 62% since our launch – and this was all from word of mouth. Wiganer to Wiganer.
We truly hope Wigan gets its own local station soon – it may even be us at some point – because it deserves to have one, just like every other Greater Manchester borough.
Keep fettlin’. We’ll sithy.
From all the Wigan One team
Wigan One will cease broadcasting at the end of May 2026.
